Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset leaks in full, and it has the Apple Vision Pro in its sights

Leaked renders and specs of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy XR headset have surfaced, giving us our best look yet at the Apple Vision Pro competitor. The details paint a picture of a powerful, yet familiar, device that aims to undercut Apple on weight and, hopefully, price.

How is this different from what we’ve already seen?

We’re finally getting a clear picture of Samsung’s long-awaited “Project Moohan,” and it looks like the company is taking direct aim at Apple. Thanks to an in-depth leak, we now have a collection of renders and screenshots for the officially named “Galaxy XR.” Now, we’ve seen the headset before, thanks to Samsung’s own teases at events like the Galaxy S25 launch and Mobile World Congress. However, this is the first time we’re seeing how the company is actually marketing it, giving us a real sense of the final product.Unsurprisingly, the design doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It sports two 4K micro-OLED displays, an adjustable head strap with a tightening knob, and an attached battery pack to keep the weight off your face. It’s clear Samsung is targeting the Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro crowd rather than pushing for a futuristic smart glasses design just yet. The leak also gave us a peek at the “One UI XR” interface, which looks clean and straightforward, running on top of Google’s new Android XR.

This isn’t just another VR headset; it’s Samsung’s official entry into the high-end XR battle, and its main target is the Apple Vision Pro. The Galaxy XR is actually a bit of a powerhouse on paper. Its micro-OLED panel packs nearly 6 million more pixels than the display in the Vision Pro, which is impressive. However, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s XR2+ Gen 2 processor, a chip that’s already been around for a couple of years. It’s a bit of an odd choice, but hopefully it’s enough to deliver a smooth experience.The biggest advantage for Samsung might be weight. The Galaxy XR allegedly comes in at 545 grams, which is noticeably lighter than Apple’s headset. For anyone who’s worn a Vision Pro for more than 30 minutes, you know how much of a difference that can make. The trade-off seems to be battery life, which is pegged at around two hours.

Will this be practical?

Honestly, this leak has me cautiously optimistic. The headset looks like a solid, well-thought-out device that addresses one of the biggest complaints about the Vision Pro: its weight. By offloading the battery to a separate pack and keeping the headset itself lighter, Samsung is making a practical choice that could win over a lot of people.However, I’m a little concerned about the two-year-old processor. I won’t pretend to be an expert in XR, but to my understanding, high-end XR demands a ton of power, and using a slightly dated chip could lead to performance issues down the road. Still, if Samsung can nail the software and—most importantly—price it competitively, the Galaxy XR could be the mainstream Vision Pro alternative we’ve been waiting for. I’m definitely eager to see how it performs in a real-world review.

Unlocking AI’s full potential requires operational excellence

Capturing, documenting, and distributing knowledge at scale is critical to organizational success with AI. Yet our survey showed only 16% of respondents say their workflows are extremely well-documented. The top barriers to proper documentation are a lack of time, cited by 40% of respondents, and a lack of tools, cited by 30%.

The challenge of integrating new technology with old processes was perfectly illustrated in a recent meeting I had with a Fortune 500 executive. The company is pushing for significant productivity gains with AI, but it still relies on an outdated collaboration tool that was never designed for teamwork. This situation highlights the very challenge our survey uncovered: Powerful AI initiatives can stall if teams lack modern collaboration and documentation tools.

This disconnect shows that AI adoption is about more than just the technology itself. For it to truly succeed enterprise-wide, companies need to provide a unified space for teams to brainstorm, plan, document, and make decisions. The fundamentals of successful technology adoption still hold true: You need the right tools to enable collaboration and documentation for AI to truly make an impact.

Collaboration and change management are hidden blockers to AI implementation

A company’s approach to AI is perceived very differently depending on an employee’s role. While 61% of C-suite executives believe their company’s strategy is well-considered, that number drops to 49% for managers and just 36% for entry-level employees, as our survey found.

Just like with product development, building a successful AI strategy requires a structured approach. Leaders and teams need a collaborative space to come together, brainstorm, prioritize the most promising opportunities, and map out a clear path forward. As many companies have embraced hybrid or distributed work, supporting remote collaboration with digital tools becomes even more important.

We recently used AI to streamline a strategic challenge for our executive team. A product leader used it to generate a comprehensive preparatory memo in a fraction of the typical time, complete with summaries, benchmarks, and recommendations.

Despite this efficiency, the AI-generated document was merely the foundation. We still had to meet to debate the specifics, prioritize actions, assign ownership, and formally document our decisions and next steps.

According to our survey, 23% of respondents reported that collaboration is frequently a bottleneck in complex work. Employees are willing to embrace change, but friction from poor collaboration adds risk and reduces the potential impact of AI.

Google’s still not giving us the full picture on AI energy use

“We’re not comfortable revealing that for various reasons,” Dean told me on our call. The total number is an abstract measure that changes over time, he says, adding that the company wants users to be thinking about the energy usage per prompt.

But there are people out there all over the world interacting with this technology, not just me—and what we all add up to seems quite relevant.

OpenAI does publicly share its total, sharing recently that it sees 2.5 billion queries to ChatGPT every day. So for the curious, we can use this as an example and take the company’s self-reported average energy use per query (0.34 watt-hours) to get a rough idea of the total for all people prompting ChatGPT.

According to my math, over the course of a year, that would add up to over 300 gigawatt-hours—the same as powering nearly 30,000 US homes annually. When you put it that way, it starts to sound like a lot of seconds in microwaves.

3. AI is everywhere, not just in chatbots, and we’re often not even conscious of it.

AI is touching our lives even when we’re not looking for it. AI summaries appear in web searches, whether you ask for them or not. There are built-in features for email and texting applications that that can draft or summarize messages for you.

Google’s estimate is strictly for Gemini apps and wouldn’t include many of the other ways that even this one company is using AI. So even if you’re trying to think about your own personal energy demand, it’s increasingly difficult to tally up. 

To be clear, I don’t think people should feel guilty for using tools that they find genuinely helpful. And ultimately, I don’t think the most important conversation is about personal responsibility.

Galaxy S26 Ultra destined to flop unless Samsung gives us full control over this rumored new feature

I hope that Samsung is not preparing a nasty surprise for us come January 2026 with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra.Given that the Galaxy S25 Ultra was not a substantial upgrade over the cool-and-then-some Galaxy S24 Ultra, I expect big things out of the S26 Ultra – and I think everyone else does, too. It’s not that the S25 Ultra is a bad phone, but I’d honestly recommend getting the Galaxy S24 Ultra on a juicy discount (if you’re in a hurry for a Galaxy flagship right now) or just waiting for the S26 Ultra.

Back to my Galaxy S26 Ultra mini-rant. It all started with this intriguing piece I stumbled upon the other day:

The feature discussed here is called Flex Magic Pixel, developed by Samsung Display. It almost sounds like another foldable trickery, but it’s not.

According to reports, Samsung is bringing its Flex Magic Pixel technology to mass production. That’s a new OLED display innovation that uses AI to limit viewing angles when sensitive apps are open. Unlike traditional privacy screen protectors that dim or wash out displays, this approach promises to maintain full brightness and quality while still shielding your content from prying eyes.

Maybe you’ve seen phones with such screen protectors, maybe you haven’t: but it’s getting more popular by the day.

If the leaks are accurate, the S26 Ultra will be the first Samsung phone to ship with this display tech, potentially giving it a practical advantage over rivals.

And it does sound like a practical feature: no more turning around when opening your bank account in public. Or when looking at those funny pictures of you on the beach last year. In fact, even if you don’t have sensitive stuff on your phone, it’s good to keep pictures and videos to yourself.

Unless you actually want to show something to somebody. Or a group of friends.

So far, so good: but here’s one possible issue

If this tech is installed on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, I guess it won’t be active 100% of the time: maybe there’ll be an on/off switch button somewhere in the settings menu. I hope so.In fact, I hope there’ll be at least three options to choose from:

  • Turn Flex Magic Pixel on for all apps
  • Turn Flex Magic Pixel on for specific apps
  • Turn Flex Magic Pixel off

There it is: there should be a sub-menu in the Flex Magic Pixel setting that lets us pick the apps that trigger this otherwise clever privacy feature.

Keeping Flex Magic Pixel on for all apps would be great for the more paranoid among us, but that’s going to be a major pain in the rear for lots of people. See, I want to use Flex Magic Pixel only for my banking and sensitive stuff. I don’t want to have to dig through menus and settings to turn Flex Magic Pixel off every time I want to show a cool photo to a group of friends because they can’t see jack when standing next to me.

That’s how Flex Magic Pixel and physical screen protectors work – they affect viewing angles. By design, they narrow the angle at which the screen is clearly visible, which helps prevent people sitting next to you from peeking. The drawback is that it also limits your own experience. You may need to hold the phone more directly in front of your eyes, since tilting it even slightly can make the screen look dimmer or harder to read.

All in all, the Flex Magic Pixel feature sounds fun: I guess there’ll be many breakups, or at least quarrels: try to convince your significant other that you’ve been checking your bank account for the last 20 minutes, chatting with the AI bot about balance and new offers.

Joking aside, I hope the Flex Magic Pixel arrives on the Galaxy S26 Ultra – with options to customize! – because that’ll certainly be a leap in display technology. Rivals should take notes!

Galaxy S25 FE shows up again, this time in full color

Samsung is not done for 2025 just yet – there are still more Galaxy phones on the way, and one of them is the Galaxy S25 Fan Edition. It is the more budget-friendly alternative in the flagship Galaxy S lineup and while most of the specs have already leaked, we now also have a fresh look at the phone’s design.A new image shows off (translated source) the Galaxy S25 FE in four color options and yep, the design once again sticks very close to last year’s model. If you remember, the Galaxy S24 FE came in Blue, Graphite, Gray, Mint and Yellow. This year’s S25 FE is expected to launch in:

  • Dark Blue
  • Light Blue
  • Black
  • White

That said, we wouldn’t rule out more options showing up later and Samsung might also decide to spice things up with more playful marketing names, as previously rumored. It is not unusual for a company to rename “Dark Blue” into something like “Navy Fog” just for the marketing punch.

Aside from the new colors, the S25 FE is said to bring a slimmer and lighter body, with thinner bezels that should help the design feel a bit more modern. However, internally, Samsung seems to be sticking to the same formula as last year, essentially cramming all the S24 FE hardware into a sleeker shell.

You are still getting a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and camera-wise, nothing is expected to change, either. That means the same setup as before – and actually, the same as the base Galaxy S24:

  • 50 MP main with OIS
  • 12 MP ultra-wide
  • 8 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom

This trio already delivered solid results in our camera tests, so even without any upgrades this time around, users should still be happy with the overall performance.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S25 FE is expected to run on the Exynos 2400 chip, with 8 GB of RAM and your choice of 128 GB or 256 GB storage. 45W charging should finally be on board too, although we still don’t have the full battery details just yet.Samsung usually launches its Fan Edition models in the fall, so that is the window we are expecting again this year. If pricing stays the same, you are looking at a $650 starting price. That’s notably higher than the Google Pixel 9a, which starts at $499 and often sees discounts, making the Pixel a tough competitor in this affordable flagship space.
