Technically, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has been on sale at an even heftier discount of $320 at least once in the past, but only in a 512GB configuration, which means that the powerful, versatile, and elegant device is now cheaper than it’s ever been.

I don’t have a crystal ball or anything, so I can’t make any promises, but if Amazon is able to slash more than $470 off the list price of the hugely popular Galaxy S25 Ultra or sell the similarly successful (by its family’s standards) Galaxy Z Flip 7 at a deeper discount than $270 next week, let’s just say I’ll be very surprised.
Granted, the S25 Ultra is not exactly conventionally affordable even after that markdown (which is only available for a top-of-the-line 1TB storage variant that normally carries a pretty obscene price tag), and in order to maximize your foldable savings today, you’ll need to opt for a Z Flip 7 with 512 gigs of local digital hoarding room instead of going with the entry-level 256GB configuration.
But these are still undeniably spectacular (and unprecedented) deals here, and the same actually goes for the post-Apple Watch Series 11 launch discount of an Apple Watch Series 10 model with standalone cellular connectivity. That may no longer be the all-around best smartwatch money can buy for… obvious reasons, but at a whopping $170 off, it’s incredibly hard to turn down.

Can’t afford a 1TB Galaxy S25 Ultra? Then how about a Motorola Razr Ultra with the same copious amount of internal storage space? Of course, the pricing difference between the two Ultras is not very large, so if you want to spend significantly less on a similarly powerful and fashionable handset, the Galaxy S25, S25 Edge, Motorola Razr (2025), and Razr Plus (2024) are all worth considering at their latest discounts.
Last year’s Razr+ powerhouse looks particularly appealing at both a hefty discount and with some very valuable gifts bundled in, but if you’re still not sold on foldables, the “vanilla” Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 can deliver amazing value as well at two heavily reduced prices… I personally expect to go even lower during Amazon’s fall Prime Day extravaganza on October 7 and 8.

Here’s something I’m not sure I’ve ever seen happen in one of my weekly deals roundups before. Without meaning to, I’ve collected a massive group of mid-range tablets available at special prices right now and not even one true high-end model.
That means there are no super-expensive devices in this particular section of this week’s roundup, although the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Lenovo Yoga Tab are obviously a lot costlier than Amazon’s Fire HD 8, Fire HD 10, and even the Fire Max 11.
The cool thing about the Lenovo Yoga Tab, Idea Tab Plus, and Idea Tab is that all three of these affordable slates are very new, having gone on sale in the US over the last couple of weeks and incredibly already dropping to even lower prices. According to its manufacturer just yesterday, the two-and-a-half-month-old clamshell has managed to outsell not only last year’s Z Flip 6 in that timeframe, but the similarly successful Z Fold 7 as well. As you can imagine, this is a straightforward deal requiring no obligatory trade-in or any other jumping through hoops of any sort, although if you do have a good device in good condition that you want to get rid of, Samsung will obviously take it off your hands and allow you to maximize your Galaxy Z Flip 7 savings.

Gemini is available on the cover screen of Samsung’s newest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7. However, older models have missed that feature, and many Samsung fans have been hoping to get it. Well, now, finally, some wishes have been granted.

Now, if you want to use Gemini on the cover screen, you’ll have to use the “Hey Google” wake-up command or add the app to Good Lock’s launcher widget.
Still, long-pressing the power button still prompts you to open the phone to continue, which is definitely making Gemini summoning less convenient than ideal. We do hope this will change with a future update, though.

Luckily, almost all of Gemini’s features work on the cover display. Basically, you can use voice or text input for regular queries, and Gemini Live works, including sharing your camera feed. The only feature missing is screen sharing, which does not seem like a huge deal given how small the cover screen is anyway.
Flip 6 and One UI 8
Samsung previously announced that Gemini on the cover screen will be coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. This update is a part of the One UI 8 update. However, the activation of Gemini isn’t coinciding with an OTA update, so we’re likely talking to a server-side change or an update to the Gemini app itself. However, you still need One UI 8 to run Gemini on your Flip 6”s cover screen, so you’ll need to get the Android 16-based update first.

One of the pros of rocking a flip phone like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is that it’s compact, but you can still do plenty of stuff from the cover screen if you’re on the go. I think adding Gemini to the features you can use without opening the foldable phone is a great addition to the experience. This way, when you’re out and about, you can quickly access the AI assistant on your foldable.

After surprisingly releasing not just the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 with One UI 8 out the box, but the Galaxy S25 FE as well, Samsung set some very ambitious targets for the over-the-air delivery of the new Android 16-based update to many of its older devices, and for the time being, it looks like (many of) those goals will incredibly be met or even exceeded.

Before you get too excited, allow me to stress that there’s no point in checking your phone for a notification to download the official collection of One UI 8 goodies outside of South Korea… just yet.

Even in Samsung’s homeland, the stable update appears to only be available at the time of this writing for Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 users who participated in the two foldables’ public One UI 8 beta testing program. That makes the update uncharacteristically small, at only around 600MB, but don’t worry, everyone else will (eventually) get a massive 4GB or so package filled with (largely subtle) UI tweaks, handy new features, various performance enhancements, and security patches.
So what dates should you mark in your calendars?
Obviously, that depends on exactly where you live, what device you own, your luck, and perhaps most importantly, whether or not Samsung will have any serious bugs to deal with as One UI 8 reaches more and more countries and more and more devices.
If everything goes according to plan and the company doesn’t run into a One UI 7 situation all of a sudden, that September 25 date that seemed so unlikely at first could turn into a reality (and not just in Brazil). Yes, I believe you should expect your Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, S24 Ultra, Z Fold 6, or Z Flip 6 unit to be able to leave the Android 15-based One UI 7 version behind as soon as this Thursday (almost) regardless of where you’re based.
If you don’t own any of those high-end phones and are instead relying on a mid-range Galaxy A56 5G or Galaxy A36 5G as your daily driver, you could… amazingly get One UI 8 on September 25 as well, which means that the two’s updates are also likely to kick off in South Korea at some point in the next 24 hours.
The Galaxy S23 family, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, A55 5G, A35 5G, A26, A17, and A17 5G might then incredibly follow suit on October 2, although it’s probably safe not to look that far down the road just yet.
Is Samsung the heavyweight champion of software updates again?
As long as we exclude Google (and Apple) from that contest for fairly obvious reasons, I think the answer is a clear and resounding yes. While the likes of Sony and Motorola are (timidly) starting their own Android 16 rollouts for select (unpopular) devices in select regions, Samsung is out there ready to update millions and millions of Galaxy phones (and, soon enough, tablets) with a proprietary and heavily modified version of Google’s latest mobile OS.
That’s something no brand can even dream of rivaling right now, looking set to wash the bad taste out of the mouths of many Galaxy users after the One UI 7 fiasco of last spring… and winter… and fall.

That’s right, I’ve got another trio of Samsung bargains to recommend, and as you can imagine, the Galaxy Buds FE, Galaxy Buds 3 FE, and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro all go great with the Galaxy S25 Edge, S25 Ultra, and Z Flip 7.
Which is my personal recommendation out of the three? The super-premium Galaxy Buds 3 Pro… if you can afford them, or the first-gen Galaxy Buds FE if not.
